Letters to the Editor

Letter: How dare we?

For years, I’ve tolerated those in other states who assume I live in Arkansas. But I was not prepared for the senator from that state who objects to our changing our voting system without his permission.

Did our 2020 support of ranked choice voting offend Sen. Tom Cotton, who accuses Alaska voters of “a scam to rig elections?” We had the effrontery to decide for ourselves, instead of political parties telling us how to vote. Does he believe we stole from politicians their God-given right to select our leaders for us?

How will he punish us for disregarding Arkansas law? Will he send Arkansas State Troopers to arrest Alaskans for voter fraud? Will he send armed Proud Boys, Oath Keepers and QAnon adherents to Juneau to attack our Legislature?

Or will he bring back Smokey the Bear to warn us, “Only you can prevent democracy?”
