Letter: A high-stakes game

I appreciate all the groups that are providing outreach to our communities with vital resources, connections and partnerships to solve the opioid epidemic.Yet we need a full-court press. In short, outreach into our schools to provide students with current, accurate and honest information regarding opioids, especially fentanyl.

We need to cut to the basket and impress on students that one mistake could be their last.

This has to be a slam dunk to score with our students. This is a deadly game. The visiting team of fentanyl, sponsored by the Mexican cartel, is crushing the home team.

Fentanyl is 50-100 times more powerful than morphine and now has been detected in six out of 10 counterfeit pills purporting to be Percocet, Xanax, Oxycontin and even Adderall. It only takes 2 milligrams of fentanyl to be a lethal dose.Counterfeit pills do not even have the promised drug and in fact, are made with heavy metals, rat poison and antifreeze.

We can not be naive and leave our youth unprepared for the game of their life. They have to have vital drug information to be winners on and off the court.
