Letter: Homeless security contract

Mayor Dave Bronson fired Securitas, whom ADN cites was paid $2 million per year for homeless security services, a huge international firm with 400 operations in the U.S. That’s $1 million for six months for Securitas.

Bronson now has hired SALA at $2.8 million for six months with less experience, because “more funding is needed to do the job.”

I smell another Bronson- caused lawsuit at the expense of Anchorage taxpayers.

SALA is being paid almost 3 times the amount Securitas was paid.

Complaints that occurred with Securitas’ mishandling by a couple of staff would be less significant than Bronson’s dozens of staffers who either quit or were fired or are hiding.

Questions I have for Bronson:

• Why didn’t you sit down with Securitas each time a need to increase funding for more services was obvious?

• You have decided you could hire friends and those wanting you elected again without approval. Why didn’t you do the same for Securitas?

• Could Securitas, for $5.6 million per year (the yearly equivalent of the payment to SALA that Bronson has approved, per the ADN’s article) have done a whole lot better?

The homelessness mess that could and should have been handled far better is not the only financial disaster Bronson created. The list is long, and the lawsuits that he created are still not resolved. He is the worst mayor of my 50 years in Alaska, by far.

Bronson is the one who should be fired. Assembly, it’s your job to get rid of Bronson. The time is now.
