Letter: Support the fight against dementia

I urge Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan to co-sponsor the Building Our Largest Dementia Infrastructure (BOLD) Act Reauthorization. This legislation, which Murkowski and Sullivan co-sponsored in 2018, supports public awareness and prevention programs to combat Alaska’s growing dementia rate. Of particular importance to the state of Alaska is a grant established by the BOLD Act. This grant provides essential annual funding for Alaska’s dementia awareness and health care capacity program, which was established in 2022 by the Alaska Legislature and administered by the Department of Health.

The reauthorization of the BOLD Act is critical to ensuring Alaska has the resources and infrastructure necessary to meet the needs of those impacted by this devastating disease. I applaud Murkowski and Sullivan for their previous support of BOLD and call on them to reaffirm their commitment to the fight by co-sponsoring its reauthorization.
