With just two days remaining in her 12-year run as the coach of the South Wolverines volleyball coach, Judy Knecht said she plans to savor her final state tournament.

And because she is as much a teacher as she is a coach, she hopes she can impart a simple but important lesson to her players: That they should savor the moment too.

Knecht retired as an Anchorage School District teacher in the spring and will call it quits as a coach when the Class 4A state tournament ends Saturday at the Alaska Airlines Center.
