The Alaska Table Tennis Club and the Anchorage Park Foundation hosted the Concrete Ping-Pong Tournament Monday evening, Sept. 15, 2014, on a concrete table installed this summer on the Delaney Park Strip. The table is located between the tennis courts and the hockey rink downtown.

A dedication ceremony ribbon cutting preceded play. Two other outdoor tournaments have taken place at a concrete table installed in 2013 at Minnesota Park in west Anchorage, the last one also in less-than-ideal conditions. Play goes on despite rain, say participants.

"It is difficult," said Thierry Landeau.

"It is slippery, it is muddy," he added with a grin after winning his first-round match.
