The Springer Park sand volleyball courts got a minor makeover prior to this week's season-opening Anchorage Outdoor Volleyball Association matches. A six-inch layer of new sand was added to the four courts and other improvements were made at the park on Arctic Boulevard and 38th Avenue, according to association president Jim Dooley, who built the courts several years ago. Next on the to-do list is a chain link fence around the courts, so errant balls don't travel too far, Dooley said.
