Ivanoffs clean up on second day of Native Youth Olympics

Friday was a good day to be an Ivanoff at the Native Youth Olympics.

The pair of Unalakleet teens shined during the second day of competition at the Alaska Airlines Center. Alexandia Ivanoff won two events and Arctic Ivanoff finished in the top five in three events.

Alexandria Ivanoff captured victories in the girls two-foot high kick and the girls scissors broad jump to become the first person to win more than one event this year.

Arctic Ivanoff placed second in the boys scissor broad jump and finished fourth in both the two-foot high kick and the one-hand reach.

Also winning events Friday were Ashley Hoglund of Mat-Su and Haley Osborne of Mt. Edgecumbe in the Eskimo stick pull, John Villena of Unalaska in the scissor broad jump, Chantel Snyder of Kwigillingok and Brian Conwell of Unalaska in the one-hand reach and Trevor Wilson of Unalaska in the two-foot high kick.

NYO wraps up Saturday with three more events – the Indian stick pull at 10 a.m., the one-foot high kick at 12:30 p.m. and the seal hop at 3 p.m.

Closing ceremonies are scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
