Chugiak cyclist Sheryl Loan beat the guys and the record Saturday by winning the 100-mile race in the 13th annual Fireweed 400.
Loan, 56, not only shaved more than two minutes off Shannon Donley's 2011 record, she was the overall winner of the 100-mile race. Her time of 4 hours, 38 minutes, 2.2 seconds put her 51 seconds ahead of men's winner Michael Wheatall.
The women's 100-mile record was one of four that fell Saturday.
Marcus Farris broke the seven-year-old mark in the men's 50-mile time trial, Janice Tower and Christina Grande set a 400-mile record in the two-person women's division and Eric Flanders and Erik Ostberg set a new standard in the two-person men's division in the 200-mile race.
Nearly 700 cyclists competed in the races, held primarily on the Glenn and Richardson highways. Races began at Sheep Mountain Lodge, with the 400-miler going to Valdez and back and the 200-miler ending in Valdez.
Farris finished the 50-mile race in 1:50:29.1 seconds. That trimmed about 27 seconds off the previous record, set in 2008 by James Madsen.
Flanders and Ostberg topped the two-person 200-mile race with a record time of 7:47:36, and Tower and Grande's time of 22:22:55 established a new mark in the women's two-person 400-mile division.
Capturing victory in the solo division of the 400-mile race -- which began Friday and ended Saturday -- was Stewart Osgood. He made the trip in under 24 hours, finishing in 23:16.13. Daniel Daley was second in 25:47.43.
