State baseball: Championship is rematch of last year's title game between South and Chugiak

South and Chugiak are back in the state baseball championship for the second straight season.

South shut out Sitka 4-0 in Friday's first semifinal game at Mulcahy Stadium. Chugiak beat Ketchikan 4-3 in the late semifinal.

The teams will play for the title at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mulcahy Stadium.

In last year's championship, Chugiak defeated South 5-0.

On Friday, Parker Johnson pitched a complete game for the Wolverines, striking out six batters and scattering six hits.

All nine Wolverines either recorded a hit or run on a balanced hitting day for South.

The Wolverines poured in three runs in the fourth inning.

Sitka advanced runners to third base three times, but couldn't bring home a run.

Jake Kindred went 3 for 3 with two runs scored to lead Chugiak in its win. Brady Lindberg added a two-RBI double.

Spencer Erickson smacked a solo home run in the fifth inning to pace Ketchikan.

In consolation play, Lathrop nipped Soldotna 11-9 and Wasilla defeated Monroe Catholic 4-3.

Down 8-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Lathrop racked up five runs to take the lead for good.

Mason Wilken led the Malemutes with a triple and four RBIs. James Kardash added three runs on two hits.

For Wasilla, Hank Boyer drove in Jeffrey Forster for the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
