East knocks off top-ranked Colony; Soldotna pushes streak to 41

East 22, Colony 7

The East T-birds won their second game of the football season Friday night by limiting Colony to one touchdown in a 22-7 nonconference win in the Valley.

Colony scored 47 points a week ago in a victory over Bartlett to ascend to the top of the Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network's weekly rankings, but the Knights were stymied by second-ranked East.

Carson Washburn's 1-yard run gave the T-birds an early 6-0 lead, but Colony responded quickly with Parker Kizer's touchdown pass to Jon Pomrenke. The point-after kick gave the Knights a 7-6 halftime lead.

East took the lead for good, 12-7, on Joshua Malnoske's 4-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Carson Reed added to the lead with a 44-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, and the T-birds took their own fumble into the end zone to complete the scoring.

Service 46, Kenai 13

Xavier Harris did it all for the Service Cougars in Friday's 46-13 road win over Kenai.

Harris rushed for two touchdowns, returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown, passed for a two-point conversion and kicked an extra point.

Service racked up 319 rushing yards on 33 carries. Dominik Norman was the workhorse, carrying 11 times for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

Harris rushed six times for 104 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown run that helped the Cougars to a 27-0 lead after one quarter.

Kenai did most of its damage in the air — quarterback Chase Gillies was 17 of 36 for 215 yards but was intercepted five times. Gillies ran for a touchdown and threw for a touchdown.

Jason Villanueva completed five of six passes for 74 yards for the Cougars, who won for the second time this season.

Soldotna 57, North Pole 13

The longest football winning streak in the history of Alaska football was extended to 41 on Friday with Soldotna's 57-13 rout of North Pole.

Brandon Crowder completed 8 of 11 passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns, and 10 ball carriers combined for 174 yards on 27 carries.

Crowder connected with Jace Urban three times for 85 yards and a touchdown, and both of his passes to Levi Hensley went for touchdowns.

In other medium-school action Friday, Houston downed Eagle River 34-0.
