Lumen Christi coed soccer wins on penalty kicks in Borealis Conference consolation bracket

A day after losing on a penalty shootout, the Lumen Christi coed soccer team won a game on penalty kicks to advance in the consolation bracket in the Borealis Conference tournament in Kenai.

The Archangels finally defeated Birchwood Christian by going 2-0 in a second round of penalty kicks. The win came after a 1-1 tie through regulation, a scoreless overtime and a 3-3 tie through the first round of penalty kicks.

Sophomore Jaime Martin hit fellow sophomore Gabe Douglass, who one-touched a goal in the first half for Lumen Christi's only goal during regulation.

Birchwood Christian's Colin Becker equalized the game on a free kick from 20 yards out in the second half.

Lumen received shootout goals from Jarrett Fortune, Jaime Martin, Jon Streff, Shon Nagel and Natalie Dickhaus.

Nagel, who also played goalie, also stopped four Warriors' in the second penalty shootout.

Lumen Christi plays again at 10 a.m. Saturday in Kenai.
