A photo that explains 'why we do the Olympics'

We've seen some amazing photos from the Olympics, but one in particular has captured the world's attention.

A photo taken on Aug. 4 of 17-year-old Lee Eun-Ju of South Korea and 27-year-old Hong Un-Jong of North Korea taking a selfie together has gone viral. The photo has been widely praised around the Internet because it displays sportsmanship in the face of their nations' hostile relationship.

The act became even more significant after Lebanese athletes refused to share a bus with their Israeli counterparts and U.S. swimmer Lilly King was captured feuding with Russian swimmer Yulia Efimova, reports Time.com.

Time columnist Ian Bremmer posted the photo of the Korean girls on Twitter and wrote, "This is why we do the Olympics."

The tweet has been shared more than 20,000 times.
