An unnamed "person of interest" has been arrested and the vehicle used in the high-speed chase at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) was located Saturday evening, officals said Sunday.
Spokesperson for JBER, Airman First Class Omari Bernard, said the Anchorage Police Department made the arrest at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, and located the truck that was driven onto the base at 11:50 p.m. after receiving a tip as to its whereabouts.
The arrest of a white male took place in Eagle River on unrelated charges. Details about the person's identity have not been released.
KTUU reports that a Channel 2 photographer saw APD officers inspecting a a blue 1994 GMC Sierra pickup truck with license plates matching the one sought by police on the 1300 block of Garden Street in Airport Heights, near Alaska Regional Hospital. KTUU reports that the truck had a flat tire and several bullet holes through the rear window, windshield and driver's-side door.
The gate-crashing incident occurred just after midnight on Saturday, when the vehicle crashed through the JBER security gate, leading to a high-speed 10-minute chase in which several 9mm pistol rounds were fired in unsuccessful attempt to stop the truck before it sped back out the same gate it had entered.
The Boniface Gate on JBER was closed for around seven hours on Saturday, but has reopened.
