Death of man found bleeding in Bethel apartment is suspicious, police say

The death of a man who died after being found bleeding in a Bethel apartment is being investigated as foul play, authorities say.

The Bethel Police Department on Thursday identified the man as 65-year-old David Carl of Bethel. A suspect has been identified and there is no ongoing danger to the public in this case, police said in a press release.

A property manager at the apartment building on Atsaq Street discovered Carl around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday and called for help, according to Bethel Police Chief Burke Waldron. Officers and medics arrived and took him to Yukon Kuskokwim Health Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Carl’s wounds appeared traumatic rather than from a knife or gun, the chief said. An autopsy by the State Medical Examiner Office will confirm the nature of his injuries.

Investigators from the Alaska State Troopers were en route to Bethel from Anchorage on Thursday morning.
