Passenger dies from injuries after Palmer-Wasilla Highway crash

An injured passenger died Friday a crash on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway earlier in the week, troopers wrote in an online report.

The driver of a 2000 Toyota RAV4 was southbound on 49th State Street and ran a red light at the intersection of the highway around 10 a.m. on Feb. 3, troopers wrote. The vehicle was hit by a 2014 Chevy Sonic driving east on the highway, troopers wrote.

The driver of the Chevy and two passengers from the Toyota were taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center with injuries, troopers said. Both vehicles were significantly damaged and troopers said the northbound lane of 49th State Street was temporarily blocked.

On Friday one of the passengers from the Toyota “died as a result of complications related to injuries sustained in the collision,” troopers said. His or her name will be released after family is notified.
