12-year-old Fairbanks boy dies in ATV crash near Healy, troopers say

A 12-year-old Fairbanks boy died Sunday after an ATV he was riding crashed near Healy, Alaska State Troopers said.

Two 12-year-old boys from Fairbanks were riding together on the ATV when it hit a bump and rolled about 18 miles northeast of Healy, troopers said in an online statement.

“Family members were on scene, and despite lifesaving measures, one of the boys succumbed to his injuries,” troopers wrote.

Troopers were contacted by an InReach device around 3:10 p.m. and notified that CPR was in progress, the statement said. Tri-Valley Fire Department medics responded to the area with troopers in a National Park Service helicopter, troopers said.

Both boys had been wearing helmets, troopers said.
