Anchorage motorcyclist killed in collision with moose calf on Glenn Highway

A motorcyclist died early Saturday after hitting a moose on Glenn Highway, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers responded right after midnight to a collision report at mile 131 of the Glenn Highway, south of Glacier View and north of Eureka Lodge.

A 25-year-old Anchorage resident, Dennis Straughn III, was driving southbound on the highway toward Palmer when he struck a calf moose laying in the road, troopers’ spokesperson Tim DeSpain said. The animal had already been hit by another vehicle a short time prior.

Troopers carried out life saving measures on Straughn for approximately 20 minutes, but the driver was pronounced dead on scene.
