Anchorage man killed in Sterling Highway collision on Kenai Peninsula

A 28-year-old Anchorage man died Monday afternoon in a collision on the Sterling Highway on the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska State Troopers said.

Griffin Powley-Webb was driving a 2014 Subaru Impreza southbound when it crossed into the northbound lane near at Mile 72.5 near Sterling and collided with a 2010 Toyota pickup driven by 71-year-old Anchorage resident Ann Mary Gabler, troopers said.

First responders were called to the area around 1:40 p.m. Powley-Webb died at the scene, troopers said. Gabler was seriously injured and airlifted to a hospital.

Both lanes of the highway were closed for several hours after the collision.

Troopers are investigating the cause and circumstances surrounding the crash and asked any witnesses to contact them at 907-262-4453.
