GCI landline ‘issue’ affecting some Anchorage business customers

A GCI landline “issue” is affecting phone service for some Anchorage businesses, the company said.

“We are currently experiencing a landline issue affecting a very limited number of business customers in the Anchorage area,” a representative from GCI said Wednesday.

The area of the outage was not specified by GCI.

Outgoing phone service may be interrupted, and people affected are being asked to use their cellphones in the event of an emergency, Anchorage police said in an online alert.

Until service is restored, police have asked that citizens not test their phones by calling 911. APD reported that 911 has "received multiple calls” from people who have no emergency.

“PLEASE do not do this. Calling 9-1-1 in a non-emergency situation delays us from being able to quickly help those who actually need it,” police reported in a second alert.
