George Martinez endorses Forrest Dunbar in Anchorage mayoral race

George Martinez, a candidate far behind the frontrunners in the race for Anchorage mayor, has endorsed candidate Forrest Dunbar.

Dunbar is heading into a runoff May 11 against Dave Bronson. Bronson currently has 33% of the vote, while Dunbar has 31%.

Martinez, who worked as a special assistant to former Mayor Ethan Berkowitz, has 3.7% of the vote. He announced his endorsement of Dunbar on Saturday in a Facebook post on Dunbar’s campaign page.

“I do not believe we should criminalize the homeless, erode the trust between the police and community, or ignore calls for equity and fairness,” Martinez said in the post.

“While we may not agree on everything, Forrest Dunbar is the candidate in the runoff election that most aligns with my vision of unity and the values expressed through my campaign,” Martinez said in the post. “I know that Forrest will work hard, make sure that diverse voices are at the table, and help move Anchorage forward.”

Dunbar has also garnered the endorsement of former municipal manager and candidate Bill Falsey, who is losing with 13%. Bronson has been endorsed by candidate Mike Robbins, Republican House District 26 chairman and a businessman who is losing with 7.8%.
