Driver dies of injuries suffered in East Anchorage collision

Update, 2:30 p.m. Dec. 10: Anchorage police on Friday identified the driver who died as 78-year-old Loren Gilbert. Next of kin have been notified.

Original story:

A man died in a hospital Thursday of injuries he suffered in a three-vehicle collision on Tudor Road in East Anchorage, police said.

Tudor had reopened by 2:15 p.m. after closing in both directions between Patterson Street and Baxter Road while police investigated the 9:30 a.m. crash.

The man, whose name has not been released by police, had been driving south on Kingston Drive when his Toyota Highlander collided with a GMC Yukon westbound on Tudor, police said in an online alert.

A Toyota 4-Runner eastbound on Tudor then collided with the Highlander.

The woman driving the Yukon was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The 4-Runner driver was not injured and remained on the scene.

“The area will remain closed while officers process the scene. Drivers are to use alternate routes,” the police alert said.
