Pickup driver strikes and seriously injures pedestrian in Eagle River

A pedestrian was struck by a driver in a pickup in Eagle River early Saturday morning, leaving him with serious injuries, the Anchorage Police Department said.

Police say they responded just before 2 a.m. to the site of the crash, near the intersection of North Eagle River Loop Road and Eagle River Loop Spur. The pedestrian, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police.

A preliminary investigation found that two men were walking eastbound up a hill on the north side of North Eagle River Loop Road when one of the men stepped into the roadway and was struck by the driver of a pickup traveling westbound on the road, police said.

The driver and the other pedestrian remained on location and were cooperating with the investigation, police said. Police didn’t provide additional details, included whether any charges were filed.

A section of North Eagle River Loop Road was closed to traffic for several hours as investigators processed the scene. Shortly before 8 a.m., the road reopened.
