Woman dies in collision on Dimond Boulevard near Jewel Lake

A vehicle collision that killed one woman Tuesday evening in South Anchorage also temporarily closed down lanes of West Dimond Boulevard while first responders investigated.

Anchorage police and medics were called to the intersection of West Dimond Boulevard and Jewel Lake Road shortly after 5 p.m. for a report of a collision with injuries Tuesday, police said in a statement. A Ford F-350 traveling east on Dimond had collided with a Chevy Impala that was making a left turn from Dimond to go south on Jewel Lake Road, according to police.

The passenger in the Impala, a woman, was taken by medics to the hospital and later died of her injuries, police said. Her identity will be released once police finish notifying her family, police said. The driver of the Impala, a man, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

There were no passengers in the Ford F-350, and the driver was not hurt, police said.

Police closed all eastbound lanes of West Dimond Boulevard at the intersection with Jewel Lake Road while investigators processed the scene. All lanes had reopened by 10:40 p.m.

The circumstances of the crash are still being investigated, police said, and no citations have been issued at this point.
