Fire damages building in downtown Anchorage

Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire that badly damaged a dwelling in downtown Anchorage on Sunday afternoon.

The fire, in a house at 810 W. 8th Avenue, was reported around 3:30 p.m. and drew 14 units from the Anchorage Fire Department. There were no injuries reported and the cause is under investigation, said Assistant Chief Alex Boyd.

Police and fire investigators remained on the scene Sunday evening. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the building was presently occupied and whether it had been used commercially or as a residence, he said.

The building is wedged between Skinny Raven Sports and a branch of Credit Union One between H Street and I Street.
