Man dies after being struck by SUV on C Street in Midtown Anchorage

A pedestrian died Tuesday morning after he was struck by an SUV while crossing C Street in Midtown Anchorage, police said.

The pedestrian was crossing the snow-covered street outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a southbound Ford Bronco, the Anchorage Police Department said. He died shortly after arriving at a hospital, they said.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with officers, police said. The man who died will be publicly identified once authorities have notified his next of kin, they said.

C Street reopened around 3 p.m. between Fireweed Lane and Northern Lights Boulevard after being shut down for about five hours while authorities investigated.

The collision comes after 17 inches of snow fell across Anchorage on Sunday and Monday. Sidewalks on C Street did not appear to have been cleared Tuesday morning, although some of the snow was packed down by foot traffic.

The investigation was ongoing, a police spokeswoman said.
