Fort Wainwright soldier faces charge of murdering his wife

A Fort Wainwright soldier has been charged with murder and kidnapping related to the death of his wife last weekend.

Spc. Aaron M. Rentfrow, 30, has been detained since Sunday after Fort Wainwright police officers found the body of Tonya Rentfrow, 31, in their home on the post. Earlier in the day Spc. Rentfrow had gone to the Fairbanks Police Department to report his wife's death. The Fairbanks police turned the case over to Army police because the death occurred on post.

Rentfrow is being held at the Fairbanks Correctional Center.

He is from Fort Wayne, Ind. He initially joined the Army in 1999 and served to 2003, then rejoined in 2007. In May, he was assigned to Fort Wainwright's Bassett Army Hospital, where he worked as a mental health specialist, the Army said. He has not served in Afghanistan or Iraq, an Army spokesman said.

Tonya Rentfrow is from Conway, Ark.

The Army said its Criminal Investigation Command continues to investigate the death.
