Woman shot in apartment; suspect is in custody

A woman survived being shot in the head Tuesday in a Midtown apartment, Anchorage police say.

The shooting was reported by the woman's boyfriend at 5:43 p.m. at 4554 Homer Drive, said Lt. David Parker, a police spokesman. A man who the victim and her boyfriend said was the shooter was captured about a block away and is now in custody, he said. It's unclear what led to the shooting.

"There was no indication that there was an argument going on at this point," Parker said.

Police were not identifying anyone involved in the incident Tuesday evening and didn't know if the shot was fired intentionally or was an accident, he said. The woman, who was taken to a local hospital, suffered a gunshot would to the lower face or "head area," Parker said.

The apartment is just south of Tudor Road, between Homer Drive and Juneau Street.
