Man surrenders after 4-hour standoff in East Anchorage

A suicidal man surrendered to police Thursday at an East Anchorage home near Nunaka Valley Elementary School after he reportedly threatened his wife at gunpoint.

Officers were called at 6:10 a.m. to the 1500 block of Richardson Drive by the woman, according to APD's Renee Oistad. They subsequently obtained an arrest warrant for the man, 41-year-old Jamie Lee Jacko, on one count of third-degree assault.

"The caller stated her husband pointed a gun at her, and then pointed the gun at himself while making suicidal threats," Oistad wrote in a statement. "The man also stated he would shoot himself and anyone who responded to the scene. Both the female and their teenage son were able to leave the home unharmed; the son was not threatened."

Only Jacko remained in the home, Oistad said, but he wouldn't come out or respond to officers' commands. APD's SWAT team and negotiators subsequently responded.

Police on Richardson Drive set up a perimeter around the home, with a tactical vehicle and officers in tactical gear on-site. Officers arrested the man at about 10:30 a.m.

APD Sgt. Craig Evans said Jacko ultimately left the home and was taken into custody.

"He just came out," Evans said. "It ended good today"

Nunaka Valley Elementary operations weren't affected by the incident, according to the Anchorage School District's Heidi Embley, but police visited the school to "provide support as needed."

Jacko was held without bail on the warrant, Oistad said.
