Alaska Judicial Council nominates 5 for Superior Court vacancies

The Alaska Judicial Council has nominated five currently practicing attorneys and a judge to fill two Anchorage Superior Court vacancies.

The council said in statement Friday that Josie Garton, Jennifer Stuart Henderson, Brewster Jamieson, Yvonne Lamoureux and Thomas A. Matthews have been nominated as the most qualified applicants to fill the judicial vacancies. Their nominations came after four days of interviews in Anchorage.

Judges Patrick McKay and Paul Olson retired, or declined to stand for retention, and their terms ended in early February, 90 days after the November election, said Susanne DiPietro, the judicial council executive director.

Gov. Bill Walker now has 45 days to make the appointments from among the nominees, who have practiced law for about 13 to 31 years.

Jamieson and Matthews are private attorneys in Anchorage; Henderson is an Anchorage District Court judge; Garton is a local public defender; and Lamoureux is an Assistant U.S. Attorney.
