Police identify pedestrian killed in hit-and-run as search for Mercedes SUV continues

Anchorage police have released the name of the pedestrian fatally struck Saturday in a hit-and-run collision but are discussing few details of the case so far.

Jacob Askoak, 24, was killed on the 5600 block of East Fourth Avenue near Boniface Parkway, police spokeswoman Renee Oistad said in a brief statement Monday. Officers were called to the scene by a witness just after 11:15 p.m. Saturday.

Police on Monday were still seeking the blue Mercedes SUV believed to have been involved in the crash, Oistad said. The vehicle may have been a model ML320 or ML350, with possible damage to its front end, hood and windshield.

No further updates on the case were available, she said.

Police are asking anyone with information on Askoak's death to call dispatchers at 907-786-8900, or contact Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP or through its website.
