Anchorage man arrested on child pornography charges may have local victims, police say

An Anchorage man was arrested Tuesday following a monthslong child pornography investigation, and police believe that he may have harmed local children, too.

Cody Cogley, 27, faces three counts of distribution of child pornography and three counts of possession of child pornography, in addition to being charged with forgery, second-degree theft, and arrested. Police arrested him in the 300 block of 104th Avenue.

The Anchorage Police Department believes that Cogley was at least planning to commit, and may have already committed, crimes against children.

Cogley sent pornographic videos to an undercover detective in late October, charging documents say.

"The videos were very graphic in nature, violent, involving infants and toddlers," said Anchorage Police Department spokesman MJ Thim.

On Nov. 2, investigators served warrants on Cogley, seizing material on his computer and conducting an interview during which he admitted to watching child pornography out of "curiosity" for the last 15 years.

He admitted to watching "quite a few" videos of young children being physically and sexually abused, charging documents say.

During the investigation, police found a document on his computer that was "basically a manual" on how to stalk children, Thim said.

At Cogley's house, police found a 20-foot purple Ford Econoline van with windows spray-painted black, which investigators say may have been used to commit crimes against children. Cogley had deconstructed the interior. He was planning to buy a bed for the van, Thim said.

"Based on all of the evidence as a whole, that's why detectives believe that there may be victims out there," Thim said.

Anyone who believes they were a victim or has information about the investigation is asked to call Anchorage police at 907-786-8900, or leave an anonymous tip at Anchorage Crime Stoppers online or at 907-561-7867.
