Man charged with murder in death of Wasilla resident whose body was found by hunter, troopers say

A Wasilla man was charged with murder in the death of a 32-year-old whose body was recently found off a trail northeast of the city, troopers said.

Cooper Gordon, 39, faces charges of first-degree murder and first-degree robbery in the death of Terry R. Spencer, also from Wasilla, Alaska State Troopers spokesman Ken Marsh said.

A hunter discovered the body off a trail near Sunset Drive in Meadow Lakes on Saturday, Marsh said. The Alaska State Medical Examiner positively identified the body as Spencer’s on Wednesday.

The cause of death was determined to be the result of gunfire, Marsh said.

Troopers arrested Gordon around 1 p.m. Thursday, according to March. He is currently being held at the Matanuska-Susitna Pretrial Facility in Palmer.

More information about the case was not available because of the ongoing investigation, Marsh said.
