Spectator badly injured by car involved in street race, Anchorage police say

A man watching a street race late Friday in North Anchorage was badly hurt when one of two cars involved struck him, Anchorage police say.

Officers responded at 10:18 p.m. to a report of an injured pedestrian in the 900 block of North Reeve Boulevard, near Ship Creek and the William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery.

“The preliminary investigation found that a group of people were gathered to race their vehicles,” police said. “Two vehicles, a gray Acura Integra and a black Ford Mustang, were racing when the Ford Mustang struck an adult male spectator.”

The injured man was hospitalized with “life-threatening injuries,” police said, while the Mustang driver remained on the scene and cooperated with police.

No charges had been filed as of late Friday, police said.

No further details were immediately available.
