Man fatally stabbed by his brother in Western Alaska community of Scammon Bay, troopers say

A 35-year-old Scammon Bay man was fatally stabbed by his older brother, Alaska State Troopers say.

Cedric Yunak died of his injuries at the village clinic, troopers said in an online report. They received a report of the stabbing around 2 p.m. Thursday.

Troopers from Hooper Bay and St. Mary’s responded to the village. A preliminary investigation determined that Yunak’s 37-year-old brother Max Yunak had stabbed him, troopers said. He was detained by Scammon Bay Village Police Officers and then arrested by troopers.

Max Yunak was jailed on charges of first-degree murder. No additional details were immediately available.

An investigation continues.
