Man who broke into Wasilla home is shot and killed by woman defending husband, troopers say

A 22-year-old man was shot and killed after he broke into a Wasilla home Sunday morning, Alaska State Troopers said.

Justice Beaudoin-Martinez forced entry through the home’s sliding glass door in an attempted burglary, troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain said. Beaudoin-Martinez, a Houston resident, did not know the couple who lived at the house, troopers said.

Both residents were home when he entered, but they were not immediately aware of his presence, DeSpain said.

A fight began when they noticed Beaudoin-Martinez around 9 a.m., according to troopers. The man who lived in the home was stabbed in the arm during the fight and his wife grabbed a firearm and shot Beaudoin-Martinez in defense of her husband, troopers said.

Beaudoin-Martinez died at the scene, DeSpain said. The man who was stabbed was treated at a hospital for a wound troopers described as not life-threatening.

Investigators at the scene said the evidence was consistent with an act of self defense, according to troopers.
