Troopers: Fairbanks man faces charges after leaving scene of multiple accidents

A 21-year-old Fairbanks man fled from the scene of three accidents before he was contacted by the Fairbanks Police Department Tuesday, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Shad Wood, of Fairbanks, was operating a 2008 Chevrolet pickup when he collided with "several vehicles" on the Johansen Expressway between Peger Road and University Avenue, troopers said in an online dispatch.

Troopers reported Wood allegedly rear-ended a taxicab Tuesday morning, but left the scene of that accident. He then drove westbound on the expressway and sideswiped two more vehicles without stopping, troopers said.

Troopers got a call about the collisions at 7:25 a.m. Fairbanks police were able to make contact with Wood at Geist Road and Fairbanks Street. Troopers responded and began investigating the collisions.

Troopers said Wood was charged with "several violations" but online court records didn't specify what the charges were; additional charges were expected to be filed "in the near future."

Nobody was injured in the collisions and troopers said Wood was not impaired at the time of the accidents.
