Goose Creek inmate found unconscious in jail cell dies

A 41-year-old Goose Creek Correctional Center inmate died Saturday morning, two days after he was found unconscious in his cell.

According to the state Department of Corrections, Joseph Brant was found shortly after 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Officers and medical staff immediately gave Brant CPR, then a LifeMed helicopter flew him to an Anchorage hospital, according to the department.

He was pronounced dead at 9:37 a.m. Saturday.

Corrections spokeswoman Sherrie Daigle declined to provide additional details about the death.

Alaska State Troopers are handling the investigation.

Brant was originally booked at the Anchorage jail in November 2014 on charges of making a false report, resisting arrest and second-degree escape.

Brant's family has been told of his death.
