Two people died Wednesday when their pickup truck crossed over into oncoming traffic on the Kenai Spur Highway and crashed head-on into a motorhome, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Troopers said 77-year-old Jerold Greer of Colorado was driving a Ford F-350 northbound on the highway near Soldotna. Donna Greer, 71, was a passenger in the truck.
The truck crossed into the southbound lane near Mile 3 of the highway and was hit head-on by a motorhome driven by 71-year-old Charles Wiesneth of Florida.
Troopers, along with Kenai and Soldotna police, responded to the crash around 2 p.m.
Wiesneth and his passenger, 50-year-old Robin Wiesneth, were taken to Central Peninsula Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, troopers said.
The Greers were declared dead at the scene, troopers said.
Troopers said all four people wore seat belts and both vehicles were totaled.
The crash closed the highway for roughly six hours Wednesday. The highway is one of two major roads connecting the Kenai Peninsula towns of Kenai and Soldotna.
Investigation into the crash is ongoing, but troopers said it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
