This weekend in Anchorage: Live music, comedy and stage shows plus Fur Rondy kicks off

This weekend will see the start of Fur Rondy, two showings of “Alaskan Nets” and more events around Anchorage. Check with venues and organizers for COVID-19 protocols and attendance requirements.

Spenard Song Circle with Emma Hill, Kat Moore, and Will Balcao, 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday, Nave

Join local singer-songwriters Emma Hill, Kat Moore, and Will Balcao at the Nave on Friday for the return of the Spenard Song Circle. The artists will take turns sharing songs and stories with each other and the audience in the building that previously held the Church of Love in Spenard. Tickets are $20 and available at Brown Paper Tickets. The organizers are requiring masks and either a negative COVID-19 test or proof of vaccination. Visit Brown Paper Tickets for details.

‘Fallen Angels,’ 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday; 3 p.m. Sunday, Cyrano’s Theatre Building

Cyrano’s Theatre Company presents ‘Fallen Angels,’ a play written by Noël Coward and directed by Teresa K. Pond. This comedy from the 1920s features two best friends who, now married, both have a romantic history with the same man. The play opened Friday, Feb. 4, and runs until Feb. 27. Tickets are $27-$30. You can experience the hilarity this Thursday-Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at Cyrano’s Theatre Building.

Sweet Cheeks Cabaret, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 11:30 a.m. Sunday, The Broken Blender

This weekend only, Sweet Cheeks Cabaret will be joined by two special guest artists from Portland, Oregon. Atlas and Flawless Shade are joining the show at The Cheeky Room for Fur Rondy. There will be a show on Friday and Saturday night at 8 p.m., and a brunch show on Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $15-$24, and all shows are 21+.

Fur Rondy Open World Championship Sled Dog Races, Feb. 25-27

Kick off the start of Fur Rondy season by watching the sled dog sprints downtown. The sprints start at noon on Friday, Feb. 25 at Fourth Avenue and D Street and will continue through the weekend. Watch and cheer as mushers and their teams tear up the snow in competition for the $60,000 in prizes.

‘Virtuosity,’ 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Atwood Concert Hall

This performance by the Anchorage Symphony features violinist Rachel Barton Pine. The symphony will be presenting “The Thieving Magpie” by Rossini, “Violin Concerto No. 2″ by Billy Childs, and Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 2″. Tickets are $27.50-$52.20 for the performance, which will be on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Atwood Concert Hall. There will also be a live stream available for purchase.

Comedian Ed Hill, 7 p.m. Friday, Koot’s

Ed Hill is a stand-up comedian from Canada whose comedy special, “Candy & Smiley” is on Amazon Prime and Apple TV. He will be performing at Koot’s on Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20, and the show is 21+.

‘Alaskan Nets,’ 7 p.m. Friday, East High and Bartlett High

Actor Chris Pratt is one of the producers of this film about the basketball team in Metlakatla winning their first state championship in over 30 years. The movie is playing Friday at West Anchorage High School at 7 p.m. and tickets are $10. It will also be playing at Bartlett High School on Friday.

‘Into the North Wind’ Book Signing with Jill Homer, 1 p.m. Saturday, AK Cycle Chic

Jill Homer will be signing her book “Into the North Wind” at AK Cycle Chic before her next fat bike race starts on Sunday, Feb. 27. “Into the North Wind” is a memoir about Jill’s 1000-mile fat bike ride across Alaska. The book signing is at 1 p.m. Saturday.
