This weekend in Anchorage: ‘Jersey Boys’ hits the stage, plus there’s the Celtic Spring Festival

May is right around the corner and outdoor events will soon start to inundate weekend life for many Alaskans. But this weekend there is plenty of fun indoors, including the conclusion of the local run for “Jersey Boys,” the wildly popular musical about Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Here are some weekend options for getting out and about.

Jersey Boys: 8 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m./8 p.m. Saturday, 2 p.m./7:30 p.m. Sunday, Atwood Concert Hall, 621 W. Sixth Ave.

The music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons is featured in this musical with songs like “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like A Man,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and “December, 1963 (Oh What A Night).” But while everything was harmonious onstage, it was different off the stage. Presented by the Anchorage Concert Association, single ticket prices start at $49.75.

Alice in Wonderland: 7 p.m. Friday; 3 p.m./7 p.m. Saturday, 3 p.m. Sunday, APU Grant Hall, 4101 University Drive

In this Lewis Carroll classic beloved by many, Alice encounters bizarre characters like the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat and the Queen of Hearts. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for students, seniors and military and $8 for kids 12 and under.

Celtic Spring Festival: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 4225 University Drive

This fest features 15 workshops spanning music, art, dance and Celtic lore. Some of the workshops are free and many are $5-$10, but some are up to $45, so check prices. All class fees go to pay instructors and provide materials.

Swan Lake: 2 p.m./7 p.m. Saturday, Sydney Laurence Auditorium, 621 W. Sixth Ave.

Anchorage Ballet presents “Swan Lake,” a classic tale set to P.I. Tchaikovsky’s score. Tickets start at $44 with a pair of showings on Saturday.

Comedian Damon Sumner: 7 p.m./9 p.m. Saturday, Koot’s, 2435 Spenard Road

This comedian started performing standup in Atlanta and has shared the stage with notables like Todd Glass and George Wallace. He released his debut album, “I know who I am,” in 2022. Tickets are $20.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus: 7 p.m. Saturday, Williwaw Social, 609 F St.

This band hit the national scene in 2006 with the release of their album “Don’t You Fake It,” which contained hits “Face Down” and “Your Guardian Angel.” Doors open at 7 p.m., Astoria State opens at 8 p.m. with the headliner to follow. Tickets start at $45 in advance and $50 day of.
