Letter: Anti-government attitudes

R.W. Gardner’s letter in the ADN Dec. 14 urged authorities to install speed cameras at intersections, which could also catch red-light runners. I agree with him.

Unfortunately, Anchorage residents voted in 1997 to forbid all types of speed cameras everywhere in town. There had been a huge backlash over putting cameras in school zones, perhaps the most critical spots of all.

It is too bad that Anchorage’s “ornery, anti-government” residents (words of Charles Wohlforth’s headline writer) have gone so far as to forbid protection of our very lives.
