Letter: More compensation needed

As another resident living directly under the new, temporary flight path out of Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, I think Peggy Gingras is onto something with her suggestion that we be compensated for the inconvenience associated with the current airport runway improvements. There are several other inconveniences I would like to be compensated for:

1. That first seagull sighting of spring: Do we really need the sounds of a seabird after the quiet of a cold, gray winter?

2. Green-up Day: Millions and millions of leaves bursting their buds overnight and creating a green haze throughout the city is clearly an assault to the senses.

3. The snap, crackle and pop of the northern lights on a cold, clear night: Must we be subject to such an ostentatious display, and in the middle of the night?

4. The “plumb full of hush to the brim” silence of a snow-filled mountain valley. That is just weird, eerie and unnatural. Where are the snowplows?

5. Flocks of migratory birds feeding at Potter Marsh: another dangerous distraction on an already dangerous section of highway.

I could go on. Please make my compensation retroactive to 1947. You have no idea the troubles I’ve seen.
