Letter: Don’t make Kansas’ mistakes

Like many Alaskans, I am appalled by Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s line-item vetoes. Not surprisingly, his strategy resembles the ill-fated economic approach in Kansas — his budget director comes from the same consultancy that worked with Gov. Sam Brownback to send the Kansas economy into a tailspin while its neighbors prospered. Gov. Dunleavy’s misguided vetoes will gut the state and undermine any chance of economic recovery.

Alaska cannot afford Gov. Dunleavy’s cuts. If they go through, our economy will be seriously damaged and thousands of Alaskans will have no choice but to leave. I urge our legislators to override his vetoes and protect the state from the damage Gov. Dunleavy would do.
