Letter: Say no to overreaching cuts

I realize that all Alaskans are not of the same political view, but I also know that we share common values — that we are responsible for those who are unable to care for themselves.

It is so disheartening to learn that Gov. Mike Dunleavy is cutting basic care for the poorest of us in Alaska — Medicaid, pre-school education, support for those living on the streets, older Alaskans who have spent their lives here. In addition, he is willfully ignoring provisions written in the Alaska Constitution guaranteeing education, safety, etc.

Now is the time to take a stand and say no to his sharpest cuts, and it is also time to teach those Alaskans who believe the Permanent Fund dividend is their right. Let us share our riches — some PFD funds for those programs necessary to life and some to those lucky enough not to need those services.
