Letter: Don’t burn the flag

One of the great things about living in the the U.S. is that we have freedom to express our discontent. There are many ways to do this; burning the flag is not one of them. The red on our flag represents the thousands of men and women who died for our freedom. They didn’t give their lives because we are perfect. They sacrificed their lives to keep it excellent.

We are always moving forward, sometimes tripping over our good intentions. However you choose to show respect for Old Glory, be sure you do it respectfully. Anyone can get wrapped up in emotion. Anyone can burn a flag. Burning the flag is an act of cowardice. Remember, freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. If you have issues with our government, don’t take it out on the flag.
