Letter: Dividend solution

Resolution for the Permanent Fund dividend for all the children in the Legislature: Stop the nonsense. I arrived here in 1985. I started to get dividends in 1987. There has been a wide range of checks. It’s a plus for Alaskans and the economy. The past three years of taking half of those no doubt hurt both.

I would offer the following idea: The college savings plan is wonderful. Let’s find a way to do that until kids graduate. Next, get rid of it. Use a scale on residency and give residents and the state their cut.

I for one am so tired of the broken records coming out of Juneau. If we did something like that, we may force the children to the grown-up table and actually work for the people, not unions and lobbyists. I have a conscience and often wonder what they think when they look in the mirror or how they sleep at night.
