Letter: Alaska hire betrayal

Alaskans with memories on the long side remember that local hire was a huge issue in the run-up to statehood. Alaskans wanted qualified Alaskans to be hired for jobs in Alaska. It was that simple. Even after statehood, they were not able to achieve that 100%, but the Legislature was able to require Alaska hire for some state-funded construction projects. Our governor gave that up without firing a shot. The enemy did not even have to charge the ramparts. Sad.

On the other hand, the governor is willing to spend big bucks to pay an Outside law firm big money to throw a monkey wrench at public employee unions. Sad also, but we should not be surprised. Expect more of the same.
