Letter: Facial recognition bias

As the ADN reported on Nov. 25, the federal facial recognition at airports are “notoriously bad at identifying people of color, especially women, and people with beards or wearing hijabs.”

In other words, this program is racist, sexist, ageist and anti-Muslim. We all should refuse to take a screening at airports for facial recognition, or at least make a facial grimace to confuse the computer program.

It was also reported that authorities “declined to release data that would show how often its software msidentified different ethnic groups.” We should request this data; every ethnic group in the U.S. should be listed and correspond to the frequency of misidentification.
