Letter: House Democrats test America’s patience

Democrats in the U.S. House and in the bureaucracy have worked very hard to try and reverse the 2016 election since before President Donald Trump was even sworn into office. They have generated a host of false scenarios only to have their lies shot down time and again.

With Trump’s first term ending in 13 months, they are truly desperate to find anything they can use to prevent his re-election. After almost three years of floating allegations, they have finally let their hatred of Trump overcome their judgment and voted for a pair of impeachment articles that meet the smell test only for the most highly partisan Democrats.

One article blames Trump for a short holdup in aid to the Ukraine and claims it endangered U.S. security, as well as encouraging investigation of a U.S. presidential candidate.

A second article claims he is running roughshod over Congressional prerogatives. With a blizzard of subpoenas to the executive branch and responding claims of executive privilege, these are a matters that the judicial branch normally decides. For the legislative branch to claim the authority would change the balance of power between the branches.

The House Democrats seem determined to follow their most radical elements, even though their impeachment claims do not meet the constitutional requirement of “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.” One can only hope their claims are tossed out with the derision they deserve before they provoke real damage to our Constitution.
